Leading the fullest lives at Drymmau Hall
At the core of our ethos at Drymmau Hall, is that our residents are given the opportunities for continued personal growth when they come into our care and become an integral part of our extended family.
Of course, our residents and their families can take it as a given that loved ones’ basic needs will be catered for: they’ll be safe and secure here, well-nourished, warm and their individual medical needs – physical and mental – appropriately managed. But there is much, much more…
Research – and our long-standing experience – shows, that varied and activities are vital for maintaining physical and mental wellbeing ensuring emotional and cognitive stimulation to keep minds ticking and spirits high. But not any old activities just for the sake of occupying, but meaningful activities linked to an individual’s personal goals and identity. Put simply, meaningful activities – and safe activities – with a person-centred approach that dove-tail well with that person’s health (physical and mental) and mobility.
We make it our business at Drymmau Hall to provide a wide range of daily activities, taking into account our insightful knowledge of each of our residents, the information given to us by their families, and importantly, the preferences and needs of our residents themselves. In this way, our programme is a great fit and meaningful, and also a programme that illustrates dignity and respect, safe care and treatments, good governance, and crucially, people’s pride and self-worth in their accomplishments. As our recent 2026 CIW inspection report states:
“There are meaningful activities available which are personalised to people’s interests. Where safe and able, people have unlimited access to the outdoors and can enjoy the beautiful grounds surrounding Drymmau Hall. Staff told us, People’s well-being is the centre focus here.”
To make this happen, we have a designated Activities’ Coordinator here at Drymmau Hall in the wonderful Leila. Leila works four full days a week, ensuring our people continue to live the fullest lives possible as they age and grow, and keep growing. In doing this, Leila and the Team at Drymmau Hall are helping to reduce people’s stress levels, increase happiness and stimulate the brain to release endorphins to alleviate depression and anxiety, in both indoor and outdoor contexts. Leila also works to put our people’s own ideas for activities into action, as was recently the case with the men and mental health games and chats afternoons initiated by one of our residents.
A look at the accompanying image shows our wide-ranging programme of activities on offer for June (this changes monthly) enabling people to enjoy a whole spectrum of activities including:
Creative expression
Physical activity
Cognitive stimulation
Social engagement
Links with nature and the outdoors
and, technology
At Drymmau Hall, we don’t just acknowledge the theory of ensuring meaningful activities for full lives, we put it into practice on the ground, every day, every week, every month of the year. None knows the benefits more than our very own activities’ coordinator, Leila:
“I don’t see my job role as a job, I see it as spending quality time with interesting and lovely people and being paid for it. I love executing activities and watching the residents participating and enjoying themselves. So many of the residents I work with look forward to doing something and often ask me, what's on today? Or, what have you got planned today? When spending time with the residents I get to know the things they like and dislike and I organise a variety of activities tailored to suit everyone. There is always something for everyone to enjoy.”
