Spring has sprung at Drymmau Hall

At Drymmau Hall we are great believers in the value of our outdoor spaces – our extensive grounds and our gorgeous garden. Many years of experience caring for people has shown us how green spaces contribute to health and well-being. We recognise that they are vital spaces in the widest sense of the word, to promote growth and sustenance – not just of plants and flowers, but of the people who live with us.

As well as acres of green and safe areas where our people can walk in the biodiversity, or simply relax on the patio and drink in the views, we pride ourselves on our productive kitchen garden and our beautiful areas of cultivated, shrubs and trees, which owner, Tim Valler, believes to be the life blood of Drymmau Hall.

And there’s no better time for our residents to enjoy these spaces as now as spring brings with it renewal, regrowth, and revitalisation – all food for the soul (as well as a lot of spring cleaning for Tim for whom it is a labour of love!).

The chequered daffodils have just finished, yet the primroses and the tulips are putting on a good show, as are the magnolia trees in the fabulous laid out walled garden. Here you’ll find the polytunnels with tomato seedlings on the hot bench, and seeds sown that will crop later in the year – the produce going straight from the garden patch to plates in the dining room.

It is here that residents are welcome to take part in the gardening if they are able, or talk to Tim (the Monty Don of Drymmau Hall) and ask him questions about gardening. Ken, one of the residents, is interested in developing a Japanese garden and Tim is more than happy to share ideas. It is here too, that many of the men who live with us at Drymmau like to talk about gardening even though they might no longer be able tend their own patches.

Everything is lovingly tended in the outside spaces at Drymmau Hall and right now you’ll see the new orchard springing to life, with blossom on the apple, pear and plum trees near where you can sit on the beautifully crafted timber bench and take just breathe in the beauty of it all.

At Drymmau we’ve brought spring inside too, enjoying seasonal activities such as Easter bonnet making, and spring-inspired crafts. We’ve even had a visit from some real live chicks (two silver bantams) thanks to Tim’s mum, Rosina Valler, and our Manager, Hayley, and her grandchildren.

Outdoors and indoors, spring is making its presence felt thanks to the hard work of Team Drymmau Hall. After a long (and wet) winter, we are all recharged, moods boosted, and  looking forward to summer and more time spent in our very special outdoor spaces.
